Task
Develop a cost-effective packaging solution for the litter solution company, Butts & Gum Limited, to help it develop the first ever reusable pocket ashtray
The idea
The concept of an eco-friendly portable ashtray, where cigarettes can be extinguished and stored, is a great alternative to the millions of plastic pocket ashtrays that end up in landfill sites every year.
Challenge
Ensure the packaging is made entirely from recycled, recyclable and biodegradable materials, and economically produce the quantities needed to offer it to a mass market.
Solution
Mailway, always on the look out for a challenge, agreed to manually assemble a small first run, while examining ways of automating the line in order to reduce the per unit cost.
Making a change in the carton design, aimed at easing assembly and making the product more consistent, Mailway developed automated elements of the bespoke line, speeding up the gluing, folding and insertion of the five tubes in the carton.
What you may not know…
From a product point of view, this is an example of packaging offering a great promotional opportunity, as its large printable area means you can advertise an organisation or send a key message.
No ifs, and definitely no butts
